Windows: Send messages over the home network
Press the [Windows] and [R] keys simultaneously to open the "Run" command. Enter "cmd" here and click "OK". The command prompt will then start.
Windows Vista, 7, 8, 10: Simply type the command "msg" followed by the user and your message. Press the [Enter] key to send the message.
Example: "msg user1 How are you?" or "msg 192.168.178.29 How are you? Tip: You can find out your IP address by using the "ipconfig" command.
Windows XP: Here you use the command "net send" instead of "msg". Before that you have to activate the "message service" in the Windows services on both receivers.
Note: In the Home Basic and Home Premium versions, the service does not work under Windows 7 and Windows 8.
Sending messages via the home network using software Network messenger
